How Much Can Freelance Writers Earn?

Success comes even with freelance writing. It can take time to do so but it is possible. Successful freelance writers can earn as much as $100 per article or even more depending on the quality of your writing or the niche that you are about to submit your article. Some can earn anywhere from $1000 to $2000 for short stories and around $5000 for successfully published books.

There are many areas where freelance writers can check to earn money from your written articles. For starters, articles around 300-500 words can be paid anywhere from $5 to $10 for rookie writers while some can get as much as $100 for the same amount of work. Commissioned features in regional and national newspapers can get you around $50 to $100 per tip and article. Online media can get you as much as $500 per thousand words while page leads on tabloids can get you as much as $1000. Again, the amount you’ll get for an article, news, essay or book that you write depends on your experience, sale ability and the publishing house’s current rates.

As for hourly rates, some freelance writers who has been around for a couple of years or so can earn anywhere between $50 to $70 an hour. Again, it all about your experience, getting clients and making your clients respect the value that your writing talent offers. Freelance writing can be hard but it can be easy too thanks to experience and hard work.

With the right attitude and discipline, you can make a regular income in writing. A perfect example would be writing for Listverse. An 1800-worded feature revolving around the “top 10 things” niche can get you $100 per article. If you’re from India or the Philippines, this amount is already enough to get you through a week the most. Have 3 of your articles posted on Listverse in a day can get you as much as $9,000 in a month. However, the higher the pay a website is willing to pay for an article, the stricter they are when it comes to the quality of your submissions. However, if you’ll check Listverse’s website, you’ll notice that some regular contributors have 2-3 published articles in a day. I’ll share more websites like this on the later part of this e-book.

At first all I wanted was to make twice more than what I did on my office job. I managed to do so in a few months -equipped with passions, motivation and time management. Your earning potential as a freelance writer is unlimited and depends on you.

About Me

My photo

A graduate of Civil Engineering but a writer by heart was the main reason why I figured out that the corporate life was not for me. I enjoyed being at home, far from the competitive atmosphere of a typical 8-hour job. I hated the idea of extending work hours at the office or bringing work at home. I cringe about the idea of having to prioritize work over my family and living. Luckily, i managed to break free from the corporate world after seven grueling years. Although I must say that I have learned a lot both personally and professionally from my office job, I would never see myself turning back after being able to achieve my dream of being at home and working online. As I try to reach my first million while working online I also plan on entering a home-based business in between blogging and taking care of my kids.
